STEP UP ON SECOND
Step Up on Second is a non-profit organization based in Santa Monica and Hollywood that has been nationally recognized for their outstanding work housing chronically homeless individuals affected by mental illness and developing opportunities to help recovering individuals reintegrate into the community. Since 1984, Step Up on Second has provided psychosocial rehabilitation and long-term support to those affected, as well as their families, by offering quality housing, educational, social and work experiences that promote stability, relapse prevention and self-sufficiency. They continue to expand on their long-standing tradition of building supportive environments and advocacy to reduce discrimination against the mentally ill. Sharing the belief that strong partnerships and community cooperation are fundamental for creating ideal living spaces people can flourish from, Shangri-La Construction aided Step Up on Second's initiative, "Step Up in Hollywood: Sustainably Ending Homelessness," a 2010 Clinton Global Initiative Commitment to Action which aims to create 200 units of permanent housing with supportive services in Hollywood using multiple green technologies by 2014.
